All services are confidential: the content of your manuscript will never be used or disclosed by Anna.
Copy editing for fiction and non-fiction
As I carefully read and reread your manuscript, I’m going to pinpoint any issues that it might present, providing you with suggestions to make your manuscript more refined, appealing, and engaging. You will have the possibility to accept or dismiss any of my suggestions. Your manuscript should be either in a Word file (ideal for books) or a Google Docs file (suitable for simpler manuscripts, shorter than 30 pages). My copy editing services include:
- Feedback on fluidity, clarity, diction, coherence, suitability to the target audience, style, and formatting.
- Correction of syntax, punctuation, spelling, grammar, and typos.
- Suggestions on how to rephrase sentences that sound awkward, repetitive, or redundant.
If the manuscript to be edited is a translation from French, Italian or Portuguese to English, I can—if you want me to—compare your translation with the original text, in order to identify common issues like gaps, false cognates, and misinterpretation.
Proofreading
The proofreading service applies to manuscripts that have already been edited. The purpose of proofreading is to identify minor issues that might have gone unnoticed during earlier steps of text correction, or issues that might have arisen during the process of designing the interior of the book. A manuscript that presents syntax problems or any other issue that requires rephrasing cannot be proofread; it must be edited first. Proofreading is usually performed on PDF files, but Word and Google Docs files are also accepted.
Translation
I translate fiction and non-fiction manuscripts from French, Italian, and Portuguese to English; or from English to Portuguese. In all my translations, I guarantee:
- Preservation of style and voice
- Accurate terminology
- Naturalness in the target language
All services include:
Secure payment via PayPal; on-time delivery; one revision, if needed; and personal messages containing explanations about what has been done, as well as pointing out the most common issues so that you can avoid them in the future.
Why choose me?
A specialist in coherence and consistency
With an exceptional memory and outstanding mental imagery skills, I can easily spot coherence and consistency issues. If you had called your protagonist Kharis, but later wondered if Kharys would be better, and ended up mixing the two forms in your manuscript, I’ll ask you about your preference, then make sure your preferred form is used throughout the manuscript. If you had given Kharis green eyes, then decided gray eyes would be more remarkable, I’ll help you replace “green” with “gray” whenever you refer to your protagonist’s eyes. And if Kharis and a friend are running away from deadly enemies when they start a long conversation, I’ll suggest that you think about how breathless they are from the physical exertion, and consider leaving that comprehensive dialogue for a calmer moment.
No size fits all, and I know it
We’ll talk about your preferences and the needs of your manuscript, and I’ll tailor my service to match your expectation. If you’re a native English speaker and a seasoned writer who would like to receive only strictly necessary suggestions, that’s what you’ll get. If English is a foreign language to you, and you’re having a hard time with vocabulary and syntax, I can provide you with suggestions to improve the naturalness of your manuscript. And if you are an aspiring author looking for a developmental editor to assist you in character and plot creation, I’d love to help you with that too.

Editor
Hi! I’m Anna, an experienced copy editor with a duality: I’m as passionate about the scientific method as I am about creativity. I have earned a Ph.D. degree in Molecular Biology, which makes me uniquely qualified to edit your research paper—or your sci-fi story! I have lived in Italy, Canada, and Brazil, and worked remotely for a publishing house in the United States and another in Brazil. Currently based in Portugal, I provide services worldwide, having worked with clients from the US, Canada, UK, India, Italy, Greece, Portugal, Brazil, and other countries. I follow the Chicago Manual of Style unless otherwise requested, and my dictionary of choice is Merriam-Webster. I am also the mother of an Alaskan Malamute and two little humans. =)
